Cradle cap is one of the most common skin disorders in newborns and young babies. It presents as a varnish-like, scaly patch somewhere on the scalp and sometimes on other body parts such as the face, nappy area, or groin. It can sometimes appear with some yellowish, crusty content. The exact cause of Cradle Cap remains unknown, though it is most likely linked to overactive sebaceous glands. Cradle cap is a harmless, non-contagious condition that may cause itching annoyance in the baby. It is widely treated by continuous and repeated washing and brushing of the affected area. In some cases, certain scalp-removal shampoos or oils may be used. Cradle Cap will often disappear during the first few weeks on its own.
